let me explain a thing

I read this this and this and it kind of made me think.

Okay so if you weren't so incline to read these, some bands are being reportedly banned from using terms such as "mosh pit" and "wall of death" at concerts and festivals such as Warped Tour due to a rising amount of complaints from parents whose kids are getting hurt in the crowd. Kids being (as some reports are saying) as young as eleven years old getting hurt at some shows.

One of these bands who is at the centre of this discussion is Bring Me The Horizon, who I am seeing in October (shinfo).

Let me rant about something and mosh pits.

I have been to way too many concerts and festivals, and I think with the exception of three concerts (arena shows), I have been in the mosh.

Here are my pearls of wisdoms about concerts and mosh pits.

If you are contemplating going to a show at a small venue (ie Billboard or the Hi-Fi). Obviously there aren't proper seats so:
  • If you want to be in the heat of it all, front and centre. Be my guest.
  • If you want to be in the mosh but not in the depths of it, stand to the sides or the back and stay away for the love of God from the circle pits.
  • If you don't want to be in the mosh at all while you're in the depths of it, people are nice and will make sure you get to the front safe and soundly.
  • If you don't want to be in the mosh at all, there are areas on the side for you to enjoy the show.
If you are contemplating going to a show at a slightly bigger venue, such as Festival Hall.
  • Guaranteed there will be a mosh. Just stick to the sides and you'll be safe.
  • At Festival Hall as well there are seats, so buy a seat ticket if you don't want to be in a mosh.
  • Same goes. If you don't feel safe in the mosh pit, people will help you out no doubt about it.
(I can't comment on moshes at the largest of venues like Rod Laver Arena because the tickets sell out in 30 seconds so yes no comment on that)

FESTIVALS:
THIS IS THE BIGGEST ONE THAT YOU HAVE TO BE CAREFUL OF.
Make sure you stay hydrated in festival mosh pits, especially in the middle of the summer. I almost fainted at Soundwave this year during Motion City Soundtrack, and almost fainted in the middle of The Getaway Plan's set last year at Big Day Out. (shinfo)
Anyway, festivals are great. But because there are so many different types of people who enjoy different types of music, you have to be careful of what shenanigans can unfold in the mosh pits. I almost died in an All Time Low mosh pits too many times to count, due to the overwhelming amount of teeny boppers trying to kidnap the band. But in all seriousness, you can get some pretty interesting people in mosh pits at festivals. You're probably aware of how a girl got seriously burnt at BMTH's show at Soundwave in Sydney this year. Poor BMTH in the midst of all this crap. Just be aware of your surroundings at all costs. Also, be careful of flying cups of water. Have a plastic bag covering your phone (particularly useful for flying cups of water). If you don't feel like you can hack a festival mosh pit, just scurry along to the back and breathe and just appreciate it from back there.

Final word: If you DO NOT for whatever reasons feel like you can handle a mosh of any level. Stay out of it so you don't get hurt and also so that band's don't get a bad reputation for injuries or what have you. And young 'uns; start off in the baby mosh pits before you hit up festivals.
And as a general rule, if you notice anything shonky going on, try and get word out to make sure people involved are noticed. If you think a fight's going to start, or someone's going to faint or something do it so you and everyone around you can enjoy what you're all there for: appreciating music.\

My pet peeves

We all have them, undeniably. And if it's not a pet peeve, it something that makes us so annoyed we want to scream.

I have my fair share of pet peeves and little things that really piss me off. And lo and behold we have another post which consists of a list.

Leggo!

My pet peeves are:

  • People who don't clean up after themselves. Subtopics include
    • leaving dirty dishes to fester in the kitchen sink
    • people who don't load/unload dishwashers-this also stems about when people mix clean and dirty dishes in the dishwasher
    • this is really kinda gross and it grosses me out so much it annoys me-when people wash their hair in the shower and leave all their sheddings near the drain-shower plug hole hair is freaking disgusting!
  • While I may contradict myself in saying all this stuff about cleanliness and everything, something that really irks me is when people tidy up my organised mess. My room is not the ridiculous, over the top sort of messy, it's just not very neat. So when someone like my parents tidy up my room without me knowing, I get so frustrated because I don't know where anything is any more!
  • Slow walkers-just move out of my way
  • Being late for things. This comes about particularly if I have to catch public transport somewhere. I make sure I'm always on time and if not on time maybe 5-10 minutes early to catch a train or a bus somewhere. It's more of an issue when I have to meet one person or a really small group of people or have an appointment or something. If it's a large party then I'm not really pedantic about being smack bang on time-it's just a thing, no one wants to be the first person at a party.
  • People who talk to loudly on their phones-especially on public transport.
  • Rudeness! This is a big one for me: People who are really rude for no apparent reason really really frustrates me. If you want to be rude to someone who's in your vicinity:
      • a)learn how to be subtle and learn how to whisper and stuff.
      • b) just say it loudly so that the person you're being rude to can bash you up (can't say you didn't have it coming)
      • c) (most importantly) remember Thumper's words: "If you can't say something nice... don't say nothing at all."
  • People being stuck up. I know we can all have our moments when we want to gloat about something, but it gets to a point sometimes when it just goes too over the top and unbearable.
  • People being impolite  Oh man this is another biggie. Please be polite and nice to everyone, everywhere you go. I like nice people. Little things like "please" and "thank you" make such a difference and if you're polite to me and anyone I know I probably have the utmost respect for you.
  • People who don't acknowledge their hosts at parties or at people's houses. These are the people who go out of their way and put all their time and dedication to provide for you and other people. If you don't give these people the slightest bit of acknowledgement, or don't think these people who are satisfying your needs deserve it, you really don't deserve to be in these people's vicinity.
  • People who don't appreciate what is given to them.
Okay, I think you get the gist. I really hate people. But I can honestly be here all day talking about my pet peeves and everything and I really need to stop before I get angry.

MAJOR THROWBACK THURSDAY

(this is called procrastination my friends)
IT'S THURSDAY and it's really cold and really miserable, but I am determined to find some of my favourite old photos with some of my favourite people to show you all how truly cool I am. I'm going off my mural in my room-I have 70 or so photos up there at the moment but I have about another 100 stowed away in boxes and stuff and another good 100 yet to be developed!

Anyway, let's begin

I think I'm gonna do it in groups and stuff because it'll be easier? I'll see how we go hey?

THE GROUP SELFIES
This is honestly an art that we're either really good at:

(Left: Tim, Gen, Bianca James and I, January 2013) (Right: Katie, Me, Gen, Niki and Peta, April 2013)
or not??

(Ryland's eye's in the corner, Harry's forehead's at the front, then you can see James, me, Adrian, Zhen, Em and Harry and Gen's supposed to be somewhere but I honestly don't know)

THE INDIVIDUAL SELFIES (individual as in me and one other person)
Most of my individual selfies come in like, portrait format and I can't fit them all here obviously so have a few of my favourites.

(Left: Mary and I at my 18th, January 2013.) (Middle: Perksy and I at my 18th, January 2013) (Right: Tiff and I before Host Scheme Night, February 2013)

NOTE: If you're wondering who I dressed up as for my 18th, it was this guy I was not a member of Black Veil Brides.
Brendon Lee mofos

(anyway I digress)

THE WHOLE GROUP SHOTS
In our final year of high school, we figured out we had a solid 13 of us in one group and it was usually really difficult for all of us to be in the same place at the same time. So whenever there was quite a large amount of us in one room, we would count to see if we were close to the 13 mark and in the event that all of us where in the same room we would take a photo.

(In both of these photos there are the following people; Myself, Ellie, Em, Maddie, Gen, Leonie, Bianca, Niki, Katie, Tiff, Andrea, Mary and Lauren)

OH and there's also

THE BEST FRIEND PHOTOS
As you're probably aware (I think) my two best friends are Ellie and Botters. Ellie and I have known each other for six years and Botters and I have been friends for almost three years. These are the people I think I've had the best memories with and I of course have captured some of them on camera over the years so when I'm a granny reflecting on my teenage years I can tell my grandkids that growing up I had the coolest best friends ever.

(Left: We're laughing for some reason??, December 2011) (Right: Front and centre at Of Mice and Men, February 2013)

(Left: My 16th birthday party, January 2011) (Right; My 18th Birthday party, 2013)

THE MIRROR SELFIES
I honestly don't know, it's just a coincidence that I have two mirror selfie photos just appreciate them
(Left: (clockwise) Harry, James, me Simister, Katie, Niki, Em and Gen, May 2013) (Right: Katie, Niki and I , January 2012)

All these photos are making me think of that Nickelback song I really need to stop and go study.
This has been a post.

Later skaters

My wishlist of things

After being unemployed for almost a year (I did have a summer job but that was no joke for like, a month so I don't think that really counts?) I have finally gotten a job! Dreams do come true!
So while I celebrate how I finally will start getting some money into my bank account again, I can finally start saving to buy things and do things. So what would I do with all my expenses?

One: a camera
Photography has always been one of my favourite past times, and the fact that I don't have a functioning camera makes me extremely sad because I virtually have nothing to do ever. I am always taking photos everywhere on my phone, but it'll be even better for me to have my own SLR camera to take better quality photos that I can display everywhere. And also, my back up plan for everything that goes wrong in my future is to become Adam Elmakias, so I kinda need a camera to do that.

Two: a tattoo or many tattoos
Much to my parents' reluctance, I am going to get a tattoo. I have so many ideas that I want to get tattooed all over me. One of which is definitely "c'est la vie" which is French for "that's life". As well I want to get this:
Lyrics from Second & Sebring by Of Mice & Men, the band I pretty much thank everyday for existing for helping me get over the hurdles in life. If my parents are so reluctant of me getting a tattoo, maybe I should get a tattoo dedicated to them? Maybe that'll change their mind!

Three: either a bass or a guitar
My two dream instruments to play and learn apart from a saxophone, but I already have one of those. I can play a bit of guitar, my best friend's lent me her guitar which I named "temporary Zacky" (after Zacky Vengeance from Avenged Sevenfold) so I need my own Zacky. And I want to play bass because it's such a lovely instrument and I've wanted to play and learn bass since I was fourteen.

Four: a ticket to France
I can speak French almost fluently and the only times I speak French are to my grand-mere who lives in Mauritius, in my French classes at uni and sometimes I speak it just to grind peoples gears. Anyway, I haven't even been to Europe before, so this is the first country that I want to go to when I go to Europe.

Five: CONCERT TICKETS
pretty self explanatory

WHO AM I?

I'm really bored and my nannying shift was cancelled and yeah here's some fun things about me that make me remotely interesting (I'm gonna stop when things get boring)

1) I'm allergic to blackcurrants and blackberries. Fun times.
2) Seafood makes me sick.
3) I have lived in Malaysia for almost four years all up.
4) I have seen My Chemical Romance three times, blink-182 twice and I will be seeing All Time Low for the third time and 30 Seconds to Mars for the second time in August. They are pretty much my favourite bands (as well as Fall Out Boy and Green Day but I've never seen them before)
5) I played violin for ten years and trombone for five.
6) I have four siblings-two brothers and two sisters.
7) I'm cripplingly terrified of the dark and spiders.
8) I claim to be really accident prone, which I am. I have sprained my wrist, smashed both my elbows in the most dramatic of stacks and broken my finger, but the worst injuries I've sustained are a split lip, a split toe and a split finger. Not all at once, but still.
9) My favourite movie is The Crow, my favourite TV show is Adventure Time and my favourite book is Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupery
10) I love baking and cooking as much as I love music.
11) I don't do much sport, but I can play tennis, netball and basketball pretty well and I'm doing taekwondo at university.
12) I have over 100 posters on my wall, four years in the making.
13) My lucky number is the number 3.
14) I almost died when I was nine years old. I had dengue fever and I was bed ridden for about three weeks and one night my body almost shut down completely. Highlight of my life.
15) I went to four primary schools-three of which I went to in a span of twelve months.
16) My encounters with the rich and the famous go as far as this; I saw David Beckham in LAX, I met My Chemical Romance, Matty Mullins pushed passed me when we were waiting for the gates to open at Soundwave, Tony Perry gave me the Pierce the Veil set list at their show at Soundwave, Jenna McDougall replied to me on Twitter, I accidentally touched Austin Carlile's butt and Jaime Preciado said hi to me.
17) I have this penchant for catching things at concerts-I have caught Jarrod Alexander's drumstick from MCR's show at Big Day Out, Ray Toro's guitar pick and Pierce The Veil's setlist.
18) We all have our celebrity crushes-mine are Alex Gaskarth and Billie Joe Armstrong.
19) My idols/ the people I look up to the most are- Austin Carlile, Mark Hoppus, Freddie Mercury, Kat Von D, Dave Ghrol and Kurt Cobain.
20) I'm Maltese/Mauritian.
21) I have my own radio show at my university.
22) My favourite thing to do is to lie in bed with just my fairy lights on while listening to The Smiths.
23) I have had too many pets. Currently, I have a six month old albino rabbit named Fiver. But growing up I have had goldfish, frogs, a golden retriever named Bonnie, two mice named Denzel and Michelangelo, and hen named Sunny and an axolotl named Axl Rose (aka Axl Rose Ignatius Enrique Pemberton de Mimsey Pomsington Bing III it's okay I was 14 and everyone was giving me names for this fish I was going to call just Axl Rose but yeah there you go thanks friends)
24) I love photography and taking photos and I need a proper camera.
25) I think this'll be the last one, I'm really struggling here. Okay here we go, when I finish university, I want to work in the music industry.
